If you don’t already, I highly recommend reading Speaking of Research, a site dedicated to the promotion of carefully performed animal research and the highest standards of animal welfare. As I’m sure you know, animal research is a hotly contested area, but many of the findings you will read about on this blog, findings essential to the development of psychiatric treatment and medication, as well as treatment for other diseases, are findings from animal research. Their latest post is on how some parts of animal housing and animal research can get misrepresented in the media (as my post on “women and steroids” recently shows, you can’t always believe what the media tells you), and lead to incorrect ideas of what animal research does and how it works. Check out the post here, and some thoughts from Drugmonkey here.
